Education

MIMIC Education Committee
2/10/08

Attending: Bruce Pierson, Eileen Stacy, Sara Smith, Tom Ritter, Karen Ritter, Barb Pleasant

A suggestion was made that we read and study Pilgrim’s Progress, (pub. 1620), as a small group study.

There was a suggestion that the Bd. of Education should evaluate all materials used by all groups and studies within the church to be sure the studies were doctrinally sound.  This would also be the Pastor’s responsibility once we have a new Pastor.  In discussion, we felt this task overwhelming for the board or a Pastor to do, considering all the Sunday School, Joy group and Men’s studies going on.  Without doing the complete study themselves, it would be very difficult to assess every aspect of an individual study.   Perhaps, if using non-synodical material the leader should be advised to be prepared for questions of doctrine.

It was mentioned that it would be good to have a Sunday morning Bible study at the Village again, in addition to the mid-week study.  The original Village Bible Study was instituted to make that study an option for village residents (member and non-member )

A young adult Sunday morning study will begin in the spring, this was of utmost importance following the Young Adult MIMIC meeting.  Details are now being worked out.

We briefly discussed VBS and the proposed program by the Bd of Ed.; the lack of teens in the Sunday Bible class; and the importance of teaching instruction on family devotions.

We concluded with prayer.
 Respectfully,

Karen Ritter
