Day two – Burkina Faso Travel Team
Following an extraordinary long travel day yesterday which pretty much
left us very much fatigued, today totally energized us all.
We started this morning traveling to a church through a land we couldn't
recognize. Poverty and dirt were all around us
Then we arrived at Eglise Concordia Lutheran (Concordia Lutheran Church)
a simple structure of poles and thatch roof and mud pews, but it was filled
with sons and daughters and children of Christ. We began worship with people
who were total strangers to us, who culturally we had nothing in common
with, and yet by the end of the day we became brothers and sisters and
friends in Christ.
28 adults and children were baptized this morning- 2 adult men were
confirmed and we prayed the Lord's prayer in 3 languages simultaneously.
After a 3 hour worship service, we were treated to a traditional African
meal of Rice with peanut sauce, goat meat and homemade African beer (called
Raam). It was truly delicious-the beer not so much.
In the afternoon we worked to tear down the current church structure
and to prepare the sight to begin construction of the new church tomorrow.
The village was full of children, These children are amazing.
They have very few if any toys, most had no shoes and ragged clothes but
they have joy and smiles that melt your heart and now many have been baptized
into God's love.
Keep us in your prayers. More to come tomorrow.
